Hear My Cry, O God

How many of us are praying everyday, “Lord, just make this go away!  Hear my cry, O Lord!”  He could wipe it all away if that were His will.  But maybe this is one of those times when His vision is bigger than ours.  Just like all the other times….

So we wait.  What are you doing while you wait?  I’ve started getting to some things I wouldn’t normally get to, like this blog.

I’ve started practicing a new spiritual discipline— Holy Groaning.  I get by myself where no one else is subjected to the sound and I groan before the Lord.  Sometimes I need to cry to let out the tension and express my sadness to God.  He collects those tears…did you know?
You have taken account of my wanderings; Put my tears in Your bottle. Are they not in Your book?

I also like to listen to some of the more somber hymns and choruses and let myself feel what I’m feeling, not putting on a brave face for a moment.

It also is good to write some of your thoughts down-- in a journal, an email to share with a friend who walks alongside you in your spiritual journey, or even on the back of a scrap from yesterday’s mail.  I collect those writings in a pile until I have expressed all that I have over a few days.  When God is leading me forward, then I trash—or burn— them.

It seems that spending some time being honest with God about feelings helps me “clear the air” in my heart.

It might be worth a try.

Psalm 61

Hear my cry, O God;
Give heed to my prayer.
From the end of the earth I call to You when my heart is faint;
Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
For You have been a refuge for me,
A tower of strength against the enemy.
Let me dwell in Your tent forever;
Let me take refuge in the shelter of Your wings. Selah.

For You have heard my vows, O God;
You have given me the inheritance of those who fear Your name.
You will prolong the king’s life;
His years will be as many generations.
He will abide before God forever;
Appoint lovingkindness and truth that they may preserve him.
So I will sing praise to Your name forever,
That I may pay my vows day by day.

Here is Matthew Ward singing his version of Psalm 61.  Listen to how he expresses David’s cry, which I suspect is his cry as well— and probably ours.

Blessings on your day in Christ,
Cindy
